Quantam Power lights up business awardsWritten on the 12 October 2014 by Gold PR agency Consulting Hall The Gold Coast-headquartered biogas power station builder Quantum Power has cleaned up a major award. The Yatala based company, which has signed a deal to build its 12th biogas-fuelled power station, was named the winner of the Environment and Sustainability section for the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards for September. Managing director Richard Brimblecombe said it was an honour for the company to win and he was especially delighted because it was the first time the company had entered the awards, which are considered the Gold Coast’s premier business honours.Quantum Power funds, constructs, owns and operates the biogas-fuelled power stations and generates revenues from power supply agreements from its clients. The privately owned company uses natural methods to break down waste and produce methane, which is then harvested, refined and used to generate electricity.Mr Brimblecombe said Quantum Power, which has annual revenues of more than $10 million, had built 11 biogas power stations since 2006. “We’ve completed a number of successful installations in the pig, poultry and food processing industries delivering economic and environmental benefits,’’ he said. The largest power station Quantum has constructed generates enough electricity to power 1500 homes. Mr Brimblecombe said biogas was one of the fastest growing sources of renewable energy in the world.“The global biogas market generates electricity with a value of about $71.6 billion per year,’’ he said. “In Europe the technology is very popular and there are more than 8000 biogas plants operating. “The market is still emerging in Australia but we have designed and constructed more biogas-fuelled power stations in Australia than any other company.”Quantum Power is one of 10 companies named as winners of Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards this week. The winners in the other categories were Efficiency Leaders (The Mayor’s Innovation GC Award), Annabel Trends (Family Business), Skin O2 (Health and Wellbeing), GHD (Trades, Services and Professions), The Surfboard Warehouse (Retail, Wholesale and Distribution), Digga Australia (Manufacturing and Construction), Icon Software Solutions (Knowledge Management and IT), RACV Royal Pines (Tourism, Hospitality and Events, and Above and Beyond Funerals (Emerging Business) The awards’ sponsors include City of Gold Coast, Suncorp Bank, Virgin Australia, AusIndustry, OntheNet, Griffith University, Regional Development Australia Gold Coast and Gold Coast Airport.
