Magic Millions gallops away with awardWritten on the 1 November 2011 by Marshall Hall The Gold Coast’s Magic Millions carnival bolted clear from its opposition to claim one of the major honours at the monthly Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards. Magic Millions, which has now been an important part of the Gold Coast social calendar for the past 25 years, was named as the winner of the Tourism, Hospitality and Events award in the October awards. The Gerry Harvey-owned thorough sales operation is now in the running to win the annual trophy, which is set to be announced at a gala function on Saturday, November 26. Magic Millions Sales managing director Vin Cox said they were honoured to receive the award. “We work hard in making the Gold Coast the premier location for thoroughbred enthusiasts all year round with our internationally acclaimed horse sales,” said Mr Cox “We are currently preparing for the 2012 BMW Magic Millions Carnival and Raceday in January and are excited to be showcasing the Gold Coast during that period.” Another Gold Coast company to salute the winning post was Reynolds Soil Technologies, which won the environmental management award. Reynolds, which has previously been recognised in the awards, specialises in providing environmentally friendly dust, earth and water solutions to the mining, construction, civil and agricultural industries globally. The family business award was claimed by GMG Stone, which supplies marble, granite and reconstituted stone to the building and renovator markets. The business, which was set up by the Pane Galea and his son Matthew in 2000, now has 70 full-time staff, operating from two factories. Another company enjoying great business success, Sea Pen took out the Mayor’s Innonvation Award. Sea Pen, associated with the Barber family, designs and manufactures dry docking systems for boats from 5m to 30m in length. The company owns a series of Australian and International patents protecting the design of its docking systems and has developed different products for monohulls, catamarans and deep keel racing yachts. Australian Construction Training Services was awarded with the Trades, Professions and Services award while GCOMM took out the information technology and multimedia section. In the other categories Icon Software Solutions won the Emerging Business category, Benjamin Construction and Development claimed the manufacturing and construction honours, and Shark Motorcycle Leathers and Accessories sped off with the Retail, Wholesale and Distribution trophy.
